Show Review: Whiskey Saints

With a name like the Whiskey Saints, you would expect a booze fueled sing-along joy ride, sloppy and passionate, screaming your heart out rock and roll. If you were one of the few in attendance at the Manchester VFW last night you would have been sorely disappointed. Although the duo, who write there music through correspondence have a complete sound with their pre-recorded tracks, one part Jack Kerouac, one part indie pop, they certainly don't live up to the name. On stage banter was where there Female lead singer really shined, with a wit and charm any ex-president would be jealous of. Turning stories of punching people in the face, from the mundane violence that it normally is, into a story that had poignant insight into the human psyche and made your sides split at the same time. She had definitely showed up Mykel Board the writer from Maximum Rock and Roll. Touring to promote his new book, he read stories that were long and meandering and left you wondering sometimes, why you didn't stay home to organize your cd collection. Although in the end he tied his stories together it was too little to late. With too many forced anecdotes about S and M and how he's traveled everywhere, it wasn't interesting enough to keep a drunken mind attentive.
